Overview
WordLens Pro is a Chrome extension that counts words, characters, and provides readability analysis. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how it is used.
What Data We Collect
1. Email Address
We collect your email address when you purchase a license or use the “Restore Purchase” feature. Your email is used solely to:
- Verify your payment and activate your license
- Allow you to restore your license on another device
Your email is stored in a Firebase Firestore database managed by Steward Technologies Ltd. It is never sold, rented, or shared with any third party outside of the payment processing flow described below.
2. Payment Information
Payments are processed by Paystack (paystack.com). We receive confirmation that a payment was successful and the email address associated with it. We do not receive, see, or store your credit card number, bank details, or any other financial credentials. Paystack’s own privacy policy governs the data they collect during checkout.
What Data We Do NOT Collect
- Your text. Any text you type, paste, or load into the extension is analyzed entirely on your device. It is never sent to our servers or any third party.
- Your browsing history. We do not track which websites you visit.
- Your location. We do not collect GPS coordinates, IP addresses, or location data.
- Personal communications. We do not read your emails, messages, or chat content.
- User activity. We do not log keystrokes, mouse movements, clicks, or any behavioural data.
Data Stored Locally on Your Device
The following data is stored in your browser using Chrome’s built-in chrome.storage.local API. It never leaves your device:
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
License status (wordlens_unlocked) |
So the extension remembers you have paid |
| Your email (after restore) | To confirm which license is active |
| Last 20 text analyses | The history log feature |
| Your word goal setting | So your goal persists between sessions |
You can delete this data at any time by going to chrome://extensions → WordLens → Clear data, or by uninstalling the extension.
Third-Party Services
WordLens Pro integrates with the following third-party services:
| Service | Purpose | Their Privacy Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Paystack | Payment processing | paystack.com/privacy |
| Google Firebase (Firestore) | Cloud license storage | firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
We do not integrate with any advertising networks, analytics platforms, or data brokers.
Permissions Explained
WordLens Pro requests the following Chrome permissions:
- activeTab — to read selected text or page content when you explicitly click “Grab Selection” or “Grab Page”. Never used automatically.
- scripting — to inject a lightweight script that reads text from the current tab on your request. The script does not modify the page.
- storage — to save your license status, goal setting, and history log locally on your device.
- contextMenus — to add a single right-click option: “Analyze with WordLens”. Appears only when you have selected text.
- Host permissions (
<all_urls>) — required so the extension can read text from whichever website you are on when you use the Grab features. No background access occurs. No pages are monitored passively.
Data Sharing and Sale
We do not sell, rent, or trade user data to any third party. We do not transfer user data for purposes unrelated to the extension’s single function (text analysis and license verification). We do not use user data to assess creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
Data Retention
Your email address is retained in our Firestore database for as long as your license is active. To request deletion of your email record, contact us at hello@stewardtechnologies.com and we will remove it within 7 business days.
Children’s Privacy
WordLens Pro is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with their email address, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
