FishID

Privacy Policy — Fish ID

Effective date: August 30, 2026

Steward Technologies Ltd (“we,” “us,” “our”) built Fish ID (the “App”) to identify fish species from photos. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it’s used, and the choices you have.

By using Fish ID, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Photos you provide

When you take or choose a photo to identify a fish, that image is sent to our identification service to generate a result (species name, habitat, facts, and a safety flag for potentially dangerous species). We do not require you to include people, location data, or any other personal content in these photos, and we recommend you don’t.

Anonymous account identifier

The App creates an anonymous account for you automatically on first launch, using Firebase Authentication’s anonymous sign-in. This generates a random identifier tied to your device install — it is not linked to your name, email, or any other personally identifying information unless you separately provide it (the App does not currently ask you to).

Identification history

Each identification result (species, date, and a reference to your photo) is saved to your account so you can view your history and mark favorites. This is stored under your anonymous account identifier.

Purchase information

If you subscribe, purchase processing is handled entirely by Apple’s App Store or Google Play — we do not see or store your payment card details. Our subscription management provider, RevenueCat, receives your purchase receipt and anonymous account identifier to manage entitlement status (i.e., confirming you have an active subscription).

Information we do not collect

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or precise location unless you voluntarily provide it to us directly (for example, by emailing us). We do not run advertising and do not sell your data to third parties.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Identify the fish species in a photo you submit
  • Save and display your identification history and favorites
  • Manage subscription entitlements
  • Maintain and improve the App’s reliability and functionality
  • Respond to support requests you send us

3. Third-Party Services

Fish ID relies on the following third-party services to function. Each processes a limited scope of data as described:

Service Purpose Data shared
OpenAI Powers fish identification from your photo The photo you submit for identification
Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Storage, Cloud Functions) Hosts your anonymous account, identification history, and photos; runs the identification request securely Anonymous account identifier, photos, identification results
RevenueCat Manages subscription status across app stores Anonymous account identifier, purchase receipt data
Apple App Store / Google Play Processes payment for subscriptions Payment details are handled entirely by Apple/Google — we never receive your card information

We encourage you to review these providers’ own privacy policies for further detail:

4. Data Storage and Security

Your photos and identification history are stored in Google Firebase’s cloud infrastructure (Firestore and Cloud Storage), protected by access rules that restrict your data to your own anonymous account only. We take reasonable technical measures to protect your information, but no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

Your identification history and photos are retained until you delete them. You can delete any individual scan at any time from within the App. If you would like your entire history and account data deleted, contact us at the email below and we will process your request.

Uninstalling the App does not automatically delete your cloud-stored data, since it remains tied to your anonymous account identifier rather than the device itself.

6. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, or to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@stewardtechnologies.com and we will respond within a reasonable timeframe.

You can also control camera and photo library access at any time through your device’s system settings.

7. Children’s Privacy

Fish ID is not directed at children under 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

8. International Data Transfers

Our third-party service providers (listed in Section 3) may process and store data on servers located outside your country of residence, including in the United States. By using the App, you consent to this transfer of information.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at this URL with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
