1. Introduction

BiteCal (“the App”) is developed and operated by Steward Technologies Ltd (“we”, “us”, or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

By using BiteCal, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Food logs — meals, calories, and macros you log via chat or photo
  • Weight entries — weight measurements you record
  • Water logs — hydration entries
  • Exercise entries — physical activity you log
  • Calorie and macro goals — daily targets you set
  • Email address — only if you choose to create a backup account
  • Display name — optional, entered during onboarding

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Anonymous user ID — a randomly generated identifier assigned on first launch (no name or email attached)
  • App usage data — events such as food logged, paywall viewed, and subscription started, sent to Firebase Analytics for product improvement
  • Device information — device type, operating system version, and app version for crash reporting
  • Crash logs — anonymous error reports via Firebase Crashlytics to help us fix bugs

2.3 Information from Third-Party Services

  • AI food analysis — when you use the chat or photo scan features, your text or image is sent to OpenAI’s API for processing. OpenAI processes this data under their own privacy policy. We do not store your food photos on our servers.
  • Subscription data — if you subscribe, RevenueCat processes your purchase. We receive only your subscription status, not your payment details.

4. Data Storage and Security

  • Your food logs, weight entries, and goals are stored securely in Google Firebase Firestore, protected by Firebase’s industry-standard security infrastructure
  • All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections
  • We implement access controls so only your authenticated session can read or write your data
  • We do not sell your personal data to any third party, ever
